The Director of Business Intelligence is a member of the Business Intelligence Team within Technology and Facility Service (TFS) and also maintains a dotted line relationship within Analytics and Decision Support (ADS). The position works in collaboration with data analysts, business users and IT staff, and is a member of the team responsible for implementing and delivering business intelligence solutions to Excelsior College.
The Director of Business Intelligence is responsible for the design, development and management of data warehouse and business intelligence technical environment used for reporting and analytics. This position will lead efforts on designing and implementing data models, and processes to extract, transform and load (ETL) data into the data warehouse and business intelligence applications.
The College’s current BI core technical environment incorporates a data warehouse, QlikView, Qliksense, and Nprinting. Data Cookbook is employed as a tool for communicating data definitions and promoting data quality and consistency for BI deliverables. Examples of BI/analytics data sources are a custom-built student information system; a learning management system; Salesforce as CRM; a financial aid management system; and various web and social media activity tracking systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Partner with ADS and other business users to deliver a robust enterprise reporting infrastructure.
•Lead the design, implementation and expansion of BI technical environment and data assets such as the data warehouse and QVD (QlikView) farm.
•Ensure that the Business Intelligence system supports operational, performance management, and strategic functions.
•Ensure the technical environment is up-to-date on software upgrades and patches and performs optimally.
•Create and maintain relational and dimensional data structures within the data warehouse and QlikView to meet futional requirements.
•Develop and maintain complex data extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) processes using current tools (e.g., Pentaho, QlikView, PL/SQL and T-SQL packages, stored procedures, functions, and materialized views).
•Develop robust, efficient, and intuitive meta data layers.
•Ensure adequate technical documentation on data warehouse structures, data mappings and ETL processes.
•Establish and perform testing procedures for ETL processes, data quality assurance and BI applications.
•Maintain a strong understanding of business workflows, processes, and events and how these are captured in transactional systems.
•Perform ongoing monitoring and refinement of data architecture and BI solutions.
•Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, database management or related field required.
•At least five years’ experience writing and troubleshooting complex Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, and T-SQL. Data warehouse experience preferred.
•At least one year experience developing ETL processes.
•At least one year experience in the development and administration of QlikView and Qliksense.
•Strong understanding of relational database systems, data warehousing, dimensional modeling, performance tuning, and related concepts.
•Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.
•Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
•Excellent organizational and decision making skills including the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while providing quality customer service and products.
•Demonstrated ability to learn new technology.
