The Judaic Studies capstone provides students with an area of focus in this area an opportunity to integrate Jewish religion, history, and culture within the academic framework of the liberal arts.
As the final experience in the bachelor’s degree, faculty teaching the Judaic Studies capstone must be able to support the college’s commitment to high-quality student support, frequent and meaningful individualized feedback, and academic integrity. Capstone faculty must ensure students have met the program learning outcomes.
Capstone faculty are expected to communicate individually with students and with the class as a whole, participating in discussion activities and providing timely evaluation.
This is a remote, part-time position reporting to the program director for Judaic Studies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Adhere to all College and School of Undergraduate policies as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
•Be familiar with the Canvas learning management system used as well as with the support services available to students.
•Manage the online course, including course related communication, submission of grades and office hours.
•Create an effective, engaged and vibrant online learning community by maintaining a meaningful and supportive presence in courses.
•Provide prompt and substantive responses to student needs, offer timely formative feedback on student work and demonstrate their subject matter expertise in strategic human resource management through constructive involvement with student discussions and learning activities.
•Keep the Learning Management System grade book current.
•Attend periodic instructional faculty trainings and webinars.
•Complete a faculty course evaluation within one week of the completion of the course term.
•Encourage students to complete the Excelsior College online course evaluation.
•Notify the Faculty Program Director if the participation requirements cannot be met due to illness or an emergency.
•Demonstrate a commitment to student success by supporting college engagement
and retention initiatives.
•Other duties as outlined in the Instructional Faculty Agreement or by the supervisor.
•Masters or Doctoral level degree from an accredited university in Religious Studies or related field
•Experience teaching religious studies or related discipline in higher education setting
•Online teaching experience
•Familiarity with and commitment to Excelsior College’s mission and CARES Credo
